Anthropolgist and Research Anthropologist, Geraldton
Yamatji Marlpa Aboriginal Corporation (YMAC) is currently seeking an Anthropologist AND Research Anthropologist to join their team in Geraldton.
As Anthropologist, the primary aim of the position will be to conduct anthropological research efficiently and effectively and ensure that research is reported effectively and accurately.
Reporting to the Senior Anthropologist, your day-to-day duties will include (but will not be limited to):
· Undertaking connection research to serve as evidence for native title claims and other actions, and undertaking Heritage Surveys and prepare Heritage Survey Reports;
· Advising the Director of Research and Heritage and Senior Anthropologist/s on and providing input to agreements negotiations, future acts matters and other native title processes;
· Providing advice on the native title group issues and proposing strategies for resolution; and
· Completing timely and accurate information for Heritage and other anthropological reports in support of native title claims, adhering to court set deadlines.
As Research Anthropologist, the primary aim of the position will be to assist with the preparation, management and organisation of anthropological research and to ensure that research is reported effectively and accurately.
Reporting to the Anthropologist/s, your day-to-day duties will include (but will not be limited to):
· Assisting in the preparation and organisation of connection research to serve as evidence for native title claims and other actions;
· Providing research and administrative support including field research planning and logistical support, heritage survey planning and logistical support, claimant research enquiries, filing and research information management, and assisting in the drafting of written reports;
· Undertaking Heritage Surveys and preparing Heritage Survey Reports
· Under the supervision of Anthropologists, advising the organisation on native title research and Aboriginal heritage issues; and
· Completing timely and accurate information for Heritage and other anthropological reports in support of native title claims, adhering to court set deadlines.
The ideal candidate will have experience in organisational/administrative or logistics administration and an understanding of information management requirements.
Please note this position is a fixed term position until the 30th June 2011.
The ideal candidate will have tertiary qualifications in Anthropology, preferably with Honours, or relevant post-graduate qualifications. Experience in working with Aboriginal people is also desirable.
A sound working knowledge of Anthropological theory and practice, strong understanding of Aboriginal cultures and heritage as well as Native Title and Aboriginal Heritage legislation is essential.
Additionally, you will have excellent verbal and written communications skills, strong organisational skills and be able to work cooperatively as part of team in diverse settings. You will also have sound judgement and analytical skills, personal drive and integrity with the ability to manage multiple tasks.
A current driver's licence is also required for both of these positions.
